If it’s love you are in, the economy is no excuse. Austrian jeweller Peter Aloisson has crafted the “Kings Button,” a diamond-encrusted iPhone whose name refers to the 6.6-carat diamond planted on top of the handset’s Home button.

AT&T Erroneously Promises Free Wi-Fi Access to iPhone Users

Barron's Tech Trader Daily spotted a report from Oppenheimer's Yair Reiner that claims Apple will wind up getting just as much revenue from the subsidies as it did from the revenue-sharing agreement between Apple and AT&T that was in place before the introduction of the iPhone 3G last week. Reiner notes that this figure is far more than the typical $200 subsidy most carriers pay to reduce the price of other smartphones, and it's supplemented by a $100-per-new-subscriber bounty paid to Apple for each new AT&T customer that signs up in an Apple store.

Apple and AT&T unveiled a new pricing scheme for the iPhone 3G after the device itself was given the standard Apple keynote treatment during the first day of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference. The 8GB iPhone 3G will cost $199, and the 16GB version will cost $299: $200 cheaper than the original version after AT&T agreed to subsidize the price.old lg models -

The actual price of the iPhone doesn't matter to most people, but certain AT&T customers who might not be eligible for the upgrade price of $199 or $299 will likely have to pay the unsubsidized price--or something close to it-- for the iPhone 3G. Current iPhone owners are eligible for the $199 price, as are new AT&T customers, but some AT&T customers who use another smartphone and have been with the carrier for a short time might have to pay the higher price.

And it matters to AT&T, obviously. The company raised the price of its iPhone data plans by $10 a month to offset the subsidies it's paying to Apple. AT&T is throwing an awful lot of cash at Apple from the start, rather than on an ongoing basis as was the case with the revenue-sharing agreement. Still, the heavy subsidies will be worth it if iPhone 3Gs start flying off the shelves on July 11.

Remember Diamonds are a girls best friend

There are a few apps, quirks and possible scams out there that encourage those with too much money to blow it on literally nothing. One example is the “I Am Rich” app, which for $999.99 you can get a glowing stone to appear on your screen. That is all it does. (Apparently it does bring good fortune, luck and health. For a grand, I’d rather buy shoes, three outfits, go to a movie and fill the car with fuel, that makes me feel lucky!)

As for the diamond phone, the case is made out of solid 18-carat yellow, white and rose gold. Aloisson finished it off by outlining the case with a white gold line encrusted with 138 diamonds of “the best quality.” The estimated value: $2,517,345. No word on if there will be a matching set of ear rings. This iPhone is certainly something. I can only hear my dad saying “the smaller and heavier something is, the more expensive”. By that thought, this should weigh more than my car full of fuel. Is it worth mentioning my birth stone is diamonds?

AT&T announces free wi-fi access for iphone users, later dismisses it as a mistake.

It was an offer that no sane iPhone owner in the U.S could refute. But alas, AT&T quickly sensed its folly and disowned its promise of free Wi-FI access for iPhone users across its network of more than 17,000 hotspots around the country. It had erroneously published a notice on its website apprising users that it was extending free Wi-Fi access to iPhone owners. The notice vanished from the company’s website after a terse stay that lasted for an hour between 8:30 a.m. PDT and 9:30 a.m. PDT.

Soon after, AT&T explained to Cnet that the announcement was a mistake. And so AT&T excused itself from the mistake that had the entire internet abuzz for a while. But AT&T has made quite a habit of erroneously promising free Wi-Fi access as, in May, it had similarly announced free Wi-Fi access for its Laptop Connect customers only to dismiss it as a mistake.

The iPhone 3G Launch:
Everything Normalizes after Initial Hiccups

iPhone 3g launch

Apple’s ingenious anti-hacking strategy for the iPhone launch – the phone must be activated in-store - resulted in long queues outside stores, as customers waited for their new iPhone 3G phones to be activated. But the iTunes and AT&T servers connived against the eager customers and crashed. However, the bedlam has subsided and now activations are going along at a canter.

The iPhone firmware 2.0 update for the original iPod Touch is also available on iTunes, finally. Apple might have made a mockery of the Iphone 3G launch but it put a useful feature on its website that allows you to check Iphone availability at your nearest store.
